Today, Heather Gardens represents both a continuation of that legacy and an exciting new chapter.
Formerly known as Scandinavian Communities, our campus has been a part of the Cranston community for nearly a century. With our new partnership with PACE-RI, we are building on that rich history with a renewed vision for the future, one centered on compassionate care, whole-person wellness, and helping older adults live fulfilling lives.
While our community now welcomes older adults from all backgrounds, we remain proud of our Scandinavian roots. That heritage can still be seen throughout our campus, including a sculpture in our garden created by a local artist, inspired by Scandinavian art and culture. Even our name, Heather Gardens, carries a connection to our history. The heather flower is native to Scandinavia and has long been associated with the beauty and landscapes of the region.
Our goal is to create a place where older adults can live with dignity, independence, connection, and a strong sense of belonging. As a not-for-profit community, we take a whole-person approach to wellness, recognizing that a fulfilling life encompasses much more than physical health. We support the social, emotional, and everyday needs of our residents while connecting them with additional resources and services when needed.
After nearly a century of history, our future is Heather Gardens.
